Within the office, being able to navigate different responsibilities and working to be as knowledgeable as possible is something that has been an area of needed development for me. As a new Leadership Consultant (LC) I wasn’t a part of different LEAD programs last year I didn’t know a lot of the different aspects of the office everyone else in the team knew during the start of the academic school year. At the beginning of the year, everyone knew each other and had shared experiences of different LEAD programs, and I struggled trying to catch up on understanding the intricacies within the office, ranging from the L-TEAM to different programs LEAD held and the goals each program had.
After a semester and a few months of working within the office I have gotten a higher level of understanding of what the office stands for and the different programs and resources LEAD offers. This higher understanding of LEAD has helped me be an effective resource for different students who want to know more about LEAD or have problems with understanding different programs that we offer. One way that I have been able to use the knowledge I have attained is being a resource to students who walk into the office and ask what LEAD is about as well as different events where the LEAD office is given a chance to talk about the office to a variety of people, ranging from prospective students to those current students who want to get involved.
Along with that, I have been able to use my understanding of different aspects of LEAD to help be an effective resource for different L-TEAM members who have problems with navigating the different resources LEAD has to offer the students as well as using my knowledge of different University Life resources to help empower the students who are involved with LEAD. When different L-TEAM members were wondering about LEAD programs such as the Leadership Mason Conference, I have been able to give them detailed information of what the program was about and encouraging the L-TEAM members to be involved and grow as student leaders!
Making decisions for the various problems that arise during my time as an LC is a key component in being successful within the job. In such a dynamic environment, I have continued to learn, grow, and motivate myself to make the best decisions possible and working to solve different problems that arise.
